Back to the Basics of Blogging…What Boundaries “New” Look & Focus!

We began our “What Boundaries?” blog in 2007 when we started our first around-the-world trip. It was a way to introduce ourselves as Cheryl and Lisa – newly hatched travelers and keep friends and family in the loop of where we were and what we were seeing. Like those awful relatives who used to pull out carousels of their vacation slides whenever you visited for dinner…we are now THOSE people. 🙂

In 2007, the term travel blogger was a novelty. No one knew exactly what that meant or what they were supposed to do with a “blog”. Our lessons were learned by trial and error. All we knew was that our tagline was to be “What Boundaries? Live Your Dream!” because we were shedding our boundaries and stepping out of our ordinary lives to attempt to live our dream of travel.

We wanted to be an inspiration to others who might be, like us, not your typical travelers. We weren’t young and svelte backpackers who were eager to bungee jump or skydive every day, but we weren’t so old that we couldn’t do those things once in while! Being a 40-plus year old backpacker wasn’t the way we wanted to travel, but there were few role models out there for us to emulate. So we bumbled along, having fun and seeing the world.

Our photography got better and our bags got lighter. Technology advanced at such a rapid pace, we wondered how in the world we had ever gotten by without our iPhone or our iPad. Blogging started to become more business-like with terms like SEO, rankings and Google Authorship dominating our conversations.

The “blog” became it’s own entity and we found ourselves doing things “for the blog” on a daily basis. We stopped writing a travel journal and started focusing more on travel tips, destination guides or other forms of SEO-friendly posts. These are wonderful and fun to share, but it felt as though something was missing.

One thing was clear. We really enjoyed the writing, the sharing and the huge jolt we received when someone said we made a difference in their lives. Travel blogging was in our blood and we want to continue to inspire and make a difference in the world. We’ve talked about this quite a bit and have decided that we want to get back to the basics of blogging – to be an inspiration to those who might be close to making a positive change in their lives.

We’ve just re-vamped our website – going back to our What Boundaries? Live Your Dream! roots of travel stories, tips, and a lot more personal pieces about why travel has been such a good thing for us. The new site is clean. It’s basic. And we’ll be sharing more stories from our past, present and future in a special space called OUR BLOG.

Of course, we will still have the awesome destination information and travel tips, but now with a new focus on INSPIRATION. If we can make a difference in just one life, then that will make us smile! We hope you enjoy the “new” us. Check it out and let us know what you think. We’re looking forward to providing inspiration as well as lots of fun along the way!
