When an Italian gentleman meets you in the famed San Marco Square just before sunset – with a bottle of prosecco in hand – to escort you to your private motorboat for a cruise through the spectacular Grand Canal of Venice, you can’t help but feel incredibly special! The Roman Guy Tours delivers a one-of-a-kind romantic experience away from the crowds, cruising the canals while sipping a glass of prosecco (or two!).
This is a side of Venice you’ll only see in the movies. Imagine glamorous models in the sleek, convertible motorboats with gleaming teak and a handsome, smiling captain. This is your special Venice experience. Your time on the glittering waters are your own – whether you’d like to learn more about the history and legends (like we did) or if you’d rather simply sit back and soak up the incredible beauty of the magical, ever-changing waters of Venice in the sunset light. You are the audience and Venice is the diva who lays her beauty on stage for all to enjoy.
It felt as though we were stars in a James Bond movie as our able captain quickly took us under bridges in search of the perfect sunset photo. Once captured, we turned our cameras to life teeming on the Grand Canal – gondoliers, exquisite mansions, the waves (and maybe even looks of envy) from those on the shore as we sipped our prosecco from the motorboat.
We were given the opportunity to experience this special tour complementary of The Roman Guy Tours while visiting during Carnivale – a time when the crowds throng in every inch of space around the city. Getting away on our own boat for this VIP twilight hour was a highlight of our time in Venice. It was a uniquely wonderful experience and we highly recommend it for the discerning traveler who wants to see Venice as she was meant to be seen.
At first glance, the price may seem a bit high for a typical tour. However, if you consider that a gondola ride after 7pm in the summer is around 100 euros for 50 minutes, then having your own boat and captain to guide you and your special someone through the Grand Canal and around the lagoon to see San Marco Square in the glow of sunset is indeed a bargain. And don’t forget prosecco is included as well! 😉
