To hydrate – means to replenish necessary fluids the body requires to function properly. In certain situations, hydration can mean the difference between life and death. Keeping the body hydrated when traveling, hiking, walking or performing exercise is essential for good health.
The best way to hydrate the body is to simply drink more water. For most daily activities, this water doesn’t have to be loaded with sugar or extra electrolytes. It can be just plain water. Eight, 8-ounce glasses of water (just under half a gallon) daily is a good start. Many people find that once they start drinking water regularly, it becomes a good habit that’s tough to break.
There’s an easy way to tell if your body needs more water. Check the color of your urine. If it’s a dark, apple juice shade, then it’s too concentrated. Strive for clear, colorless urine as a guide that the body is getting enough water to function at its best.
Drinking water can also help you look younger! When the skin becomes dehydrated, it tends to wrinkle and sink around the face. Water plumps up the connective tissue and keeps those wrinkles out of sight.
